Kyriakos Papadopoulos began training in martial arts in the 70s. He currently is a 7th Degree Black belt in Karate, a 4th Degree Black Belt in Judo, and a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Aikido. He is one of the few instructors in the nation who can teach all three martial arts. He has been to Japan many times and has trained in all three in the headquarters of the respective styles. He is a direct student Sensei Nobuo Hayashi in Judo and Takayuki Mikami in karate. He serves on the committee of the JKA American Federation, and is US Karate National Team Coach. Professionally, he is a Professor of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering.
Dimitri Papadopoulos began training in Judo at age 5, and karate at age 8. He trained in Judo under Sensei Nobuo Hayashi and in Karate under Sensei Takayuki Mikami. He currently is a 5th Degree Black Belt in Karate and a 1st Degree Black Belt in Judo. Dimitri is an international competitor and has been on the US Karate National Team since he was 15 years old. He still travels the world to represent the United States in World Championships. He holds the record of national and regional titles in the kumite division of the Japan Karate Association in the United States. Dimitri is Professor of Practice and director of the Center for Anatomical and Movement Sciences at Tulane University.

RAYMUNDA SEMANA

Raymunda Semana started training Shotokan karate in 1992. She attained her first black belt when she was 17 years old, and currently has a 5th degree blackbelt in Karate. She started competing nationally in college, and internationally in 2010. She is still an active member of the US National Team. She is a certified instructor, examiner and judge under the JKA. She trains under at the Louisiana Karate Association and the Broadmoor Dojo. She holds the regional and national records for both kata (form) and kumite catagories for 3 consecutive years. Ray holds a Doctor of Pharmacy from Xavier University and works as a pharmacist in a major hospital.

Devin Fadaol began training Shotokan Karate at age 14. Today, he trained extensively with the Tulane Karate Club under Kyriakos Papadopoulos and at the Louisiana Karate Association under Takayuki Mikami. He currently is a 5th Degree Black Belt in Karate. Devin competed internationally as a member of the US National Karate Team from 2004-2014, including three World Championships and two Pan-American Championships. Devin was the 1996 ISKF national kumite champion, 1996 USAKF lightweight national champion, and 2008 JKA American Federation national kumite champion. He is a partner in a major law firm.

Sharon Brown took her first karate class while in college at Tulane and has been training ever since. A student of Kyriakos Papadopoulos, and is a three time regional champion in kumite. Sharon is currently a 4th Degree Black Belt in Karate. She also became the regional champion on the East Coast, during her time in Philadelphia. She has also placed several times at national level tournaments and been selected for the U.S. team for two international competitions of the JKA, the World Championships in 2006 (Sydney, Australia) and 2014 (Tokyo, Japan). With a BS from Newcomb College and a JD from Temple University, she works in project management.

Natsumi Sugiyama, originally from Japan, holds the rank of 4th Degree Black Belt in Shotokan Karate and 2nd Degree Black Belt in Shodokan Aikido. She has trained in karate under sensei Kyriakos Papadopoulos and JKA Master Takayuki Mikami. She has been selected for the U.S. team for the World Championships in 2020 and 2024. Her goal is to teach each student the traditional Japanese martial arts and their direct benefits for children: Overall fitness, confidence, self-esteem, self-discipline, respect, concentration, and courtesy. She has a BA from Waseda University (Tokyo, Japan) and an MLA from Tulane University. Besides being a martial artist, she is a theater and movement instructor at NOCCA, and a Yoga instructor.

Antony Sandoval, originally from France, holds the rank of 2nd Degree Black Belt in Karate and 1st Degree Black Belt in Aikido. He has trained Karate and Aikido under Sensei Kyriakos Papadopoulos. He is an instructor at both the Tulane Karate Club and Tulane Aikido Clubs. He is also instrumental in bringing the Tulane Interdisciplinary Experience Seminars (TIDES) in Karate and Aikido to Tulane University students. Professionally he is a Professor of Theatre at Tulane University.
KATY ANCELET

Katy Ancelet began Judo in college at UL-Lafayette. She competed nationally for four years and earned her 1st Degree Black Belt. After college she also trained in France. She has taught judo to children and adults in both French and English since 2004. She is the mother of three boys, ages 13, 11, and 8. Katy is the lead instructor for the Judo Youth Program at the Broadmoor Dojo.

Michael Duplantis is a retired Civil Engineer that began practicing Karate while in college at the University of New Orleans in 1987 with the UNO Karate Club. He began training under Sensei Kyriakos Papadopoulos with the Tulane Karate Club in 2009 and transferred to NOSA when Dimitri Papadopoulos opened its doors in 2015, to practice Karate, Judo, and Aikido. Mike holds the rank of 3rd Degree Black Belt in Shotokan Karate, a brown belt in Judo, as well as a practitioner of Tomiki Aikido.
ALYSSA BARTOSHEVICH

Alyssa Bartoshevich began training in martial arts at the age of nine, earning a black belt in Shorin-ryu Shidokan Karate as a teenager. She returned to martial arts while a graduate student at Tulane University, training in Shotokan Karate under Kyriakos Papadopoulos, eventually earning her 1st degree black belt. She is currently a Shotokan instructor at The Willow School NOLA and NOSA. With a BS from University of Rhode Island and an MPH from Tulane University, she works as a study configuration manager for a national clinical research organization.

TYLER RUTH

Tyler began training karate in 2016, as a student of senseis Dimitri Papadopoulos and Kyriakos Papadopoulos. He is currently a first degree black belt in karate. He has competed extensively throughout the country, including a gold medal in sparring at the 2023 JKA national competition. He attends Benjamin Franklin high school, where he is a junior, and is interested in a career in science.
